VDOT: Heavy rains bring flooding, road closures to Alleghany County

Heavy rains throughout the day in the Alleghany County area of Virginia have caused numerous roads to close due to flooding.

Earlier this evening the westbound right lane on Interstate 64 at mile marker 7 was closed due to standing water.  The water has receded leaving debris in the right lane. Crews are working to clean the area and reopen the right travel lane.  The westbound left lane is open to all travel. Mile marker 7 is in the Callaghan area of Alleghany County.

The Virginia Department of Transportation cautions that flooded roads will remain hazardous as long as they are covered by water and motorists should heed the barricades and “Road Closed” signs.
