Thanksgiving Shopping: Major stores to open doors during the holiday

Hands up if you were planning to go shopping on Black Friday! Black Friday has become one of the busiest shopping days of the year and it seems that this unofficial consumer holiday is now taking a step closer to encroaching on the actual day of Thanksgiving. The traditional turkey day is now being overshadowed by stores that stay open right through the holiday and capitalise on what was once considered valuable family time.

money-newlinksIn reality, stores choosing to stay open on Thanksgiving aren’t really that surprising a concept, it’s more of a natural progression of the uniquely American commercial consumer identity and it most certainly could offer many a boost in business. Just as the nation splurges on food for Thanksgiving, spending has become an activity synonymous with Black Friday sales and for many struggling stores the increased turnover is a bit like winning the jackpot at a site like www.mobilecasinoaustralia.com.au after a tough year.

In times gone by there was always one small corner store that stayed open to supply Thanksgiving shoppers with a last minute bottle of milk or a forgotten ingredient. Now however it’s the mainstream mega stores that are opening their doors on the holiday and hoping to cash in on last minute shoppers or those looking to fill their time.

In the words of Calvin Coolidge “The chief business of American people is business” and stores staying open over the holiday show that the nation is still majorly concerned with buying, selling and prospering at every opportunity. Kmart and Walmart both open their doors on Thanksgiving night as a precursor to Black Friday sales and for stores that don’t open they may just miss out on those who are too impatient to wait for the sales to start.

Thanksgiving is a day of gratitude and its one steeped with American cultures and traditions. Maybe the art of consumerism is now so ingrained in our society that commercial appeal is part and parcel of the day and stores have decided to capitalize and accommodate this sentiment.
