Ken Cuccinelli: ObamaCare’s latest broken promise

cuccinelli-header2What was supposed to be President Obama’s signature legislative achievement has become an astonishing failure. The most recent delay, involving a component of the law that was supposed to cap how much consumers would have to spend on their own insurance, is just the latest in a seemingly endless string of blunders.

It seems each month we hear of arbitrary decisions by the Obama Administration postponing different aspects of the law that was mandated to be imposed by 2014.  First, the Medicare cuts were delayed until after the next Congressional election.  Then, enforcement of some key eligibility requirements for health insurance subsidies was pushed back, relying upon an ‘honor system’ which opens the door to massive fraud.  And now caps on out-of-pocket costs like co-pays and deductibles will be delayed until sometime in 2015.

All of these decisions raise the costs of health insurance for consumers–the very people who are supposed to benefit from this poorly designed health care reform plan. Prior to the recent mishaps, Virginia job creators were already experiencing a great deal of uncertainty directly related to the law. That uncertainty has grown even more severe in recent months.  That uncertainty has depressed job creation, and shifted it to part-time employment.

It’s time for the president and other ObamaCare proponents like my opponent to realize that the law is an unmitigated disaster that continues to hamper an already anemic economic recovery. In this year’s race for Governor, Terry McAuliffe’s full embrace of ObamaCare provides one of clearest examples of the fundamental differences that voters must consider when weighing his record against mine.

Ken Cuccinelli is the Republican nominee for governor in Virginia and the state’s attorney general.
