Cuccinelli campaign: McAuliffe had better worry about F rating from NRA

The NRA has the support of a majority of Virginians, according to a poll commissioned by the NRA, so Terry McAuliffe had better be careful saying he’s fine with his F rating from the gun lobby.

terry mcauliffe2So says the Ken Cuccinelli campaign, which pointed to the NRA-sponsored survey to make the case that McAuliffe is out of touch with mainstream Virginians on gun rights.

The poll actually had just 30 percent of Virginians saying they “strongly favor” the NRA’s goals, with another 21 percent saying they “somewhat favor” the NRA and its aims.

Twenty-six percent “strongly oppose” the NRA, and another 12 percent “somewhat oppose” the organization.

Cuccinelli has an A rating from the NRA and has the group’s active backing in the Virginia governor’s race. McAuliffe, on the other hand, said at Thursday’s candidates debate at virginia tech that he is “fine” with his F rating.

“I’m not running to be president of the NRA. I’m running to be governor of Virginia,” McAuliffe said.
