Charlottesville taxpayers, Staunton taxpayers, UVa. football

PUSH: Charlottesville looks at stormwater-system improvements
This probably sounds familiar to Waynesboro residents. The city has an aging stormwater-system infrastructure, and is looking at ways it can come up with dollars to pay for improvements.
And among those ways – assessing fees on residents and on businesses.
Count on some kvetching as this process moves forward.

LOSER: Ray Robertson
He did it again – promising at a forum in Staunton Tuesday night to use a state law defining obscenity to target an adult business that is about to open in the Queen City.
City taxpayers had better be ready to pony up more in taxes to pay the legal bills that their Commonwealth’s attorney is about to get them into …

LOSER: Boys and Girls Club of Harrisonburg-Rockingham
Three months ago, the club issued a $1 million fund-raising challenge to the Harrisonburg-Rockingham community.
They came up about $1 million short.
(Ugh.)
You can put all the shine on raising $20,000 that you want, but it’s two pennies on the dollar when it’s all said and done.

LOSER: UVa. football
JMU athletics director Jeff Bourne wants to have the Dukes tussling with the University of Virginia sometime soon – though it doesn’t appear that UVa. has anything near the same amount of interest.
Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer, for his part, wants to renew a football series with JMU. Bourne doesn’t want any part of that – saying he’d rather not send his football squad into a game against a perennial Top 10 opponent.
But again, he would love to play UVa.
What does this say about where UVa. football is right now?
