The Keydets (0-1) hope to bounce back from a tough 3-0 loss to Longwood this past Friday to put a tally in the win column. Against the Lancers, VMI was put to the test facing an onslaught of Longwood shot attempts as the Lancers put up 26 shots while the Keydets were held to two.

VMI battled to a 0-0 tie at the half, but the Lancers converted a penalty shot early in the second half and put in two goals afterward to secure the road victory. VMI senior Jonathan Martinez and sophomore Brandon Hornung were credited with the shot attempts for the Keydets.

Freshman goalie Broden Schull earned the start in the season opener and logged 10 saves in the loss. He currently leads the Southern Conference for the category after one game. The Keydets earned four corner kick opportunities in the game and held the Lancers to just two.

About the Flames (1-0, 0-0 Atlantic Sun)

Liberty opened the season last weekend with a 2-1 overtime victory at home against North Greenville to get the year off on the right foot. The Flames are in their first season as members of the Atlantic Sun Conference after departing the Big South Conference over the summer.

Matthew Zaczyk and Rigo Rojas scored the two goals to put the Flames on top. Tied at 1-1 at the end of regulation, Zaczyk scored just 1:33 into extra time to yield the Liberty victory.

Goalkeeper Brogan Engbers registered three saves in the win.
