Dolph Ziggler suffers concussion in WWE Superstars TV taping: Concern over multiple concussions?

Dolph_zigglerBad news for former WWE Champ Dolph Ziggler. Ziggler suffered a concussion Monday night during a taping for WWE Superstars during a match with Ryback.

The concussion happened on a clothesline delivered by Ryback, according to WWE physician Dr. Chris Amann.

“We were able to evaluate him in the ring; he was having some confusion and disorientation,” Amann said. “We took him back to the training room and confirmed a concussion. He’s currently feeling better but we’ll proceed with ImPACT testing and further evaluation to determine when we can get him back in the ring.”

There has to be some concern about Ziggler now having a history of concussions. Last May, Ziggler went down with a concussion suffered on a kick to the head from Jack Swagger, and in an interview with WWE.com after that incident, he mentioned that he’d suffered “several” concussions in the past.

He also said in that interview that he suffered memory loss as a result of the May 2013 concussion.

“I don’t even remember Monday until I watched Raw when I got home,” Ziggler said at the time. “I don’t even remember traveling from Raw to Smackdown. I don’t remember Tuesday. I remember AJ and Big E taking me to the airport on Wednesday morning.”

Given what we know about concussions and their long-term impacts, this could end up having an impact on Ziggler’s career prospects. His in-ring work has driven him to the top of the wrestling game in part due to his ability to sell moves that may end up being limited due to the ongoing concerns related to concussions.
