Chris Graham: Mark Warner and his 2014 Senate contenders

Is U.S. Sen. Mark Warner vulnerable in his upcoming 2014 re-election race? A poll commissioned by a conservative website suggests he may be. The Washington Free Beacon poll found that Warner would defeat a generic Republican candidate by just five points, 50 percent to 45 percent.

Chris Graham: Whither Robert Sarvis and the Virginia Libertarian Party?

OK, so he didn’t get 10 percent, and he surely didn’t win. But Robert Sarvis held on to most of the support that he was getting in polls taken before the 2013 Virginia governor election. What does this mean for Sarvis and for the Libertarian Party whose banner he carried? Not much, actually, despite what you’re hearing from the Libertarians.

Winners/Losers: The 2013 Virginia elections

Winner: Terry McAuliffe This one is obvious. The Macker didn’t win by anywhere near the margin the final polls had indicated, but a win is a win is a win. Loser: Terry McAuliffe Also obvious. He wins by 10 points, he has a mandate. He wins by two, and he’s greeted by House Speaker Bill Howell trash-talking him.

Local tally: GOP wins big in Augusta, Rockingham, holds serve in Staunton, Waynesboro, Harrisonburg

Augusta and Rockingham are always among the most Republican parts of the state in statewide elections. That held true again in the 2013 state races. Republicans Ken Cuccinelli, E.W. Jackson and Mark Obenshain ran strong in the counties Tuesday.

Chris Graham: Handicapping the Virginia governor race, other state races

It’s hard, really hard, to imagine Democrat Terry McAuliffe not winning the 2013 Virginia governor’s race, and by a relatively safe margin. McAuliffe, the former Democratic National Committee chair, has a lead of at least six points in every legitimate poll taken of the race in the past week, with two polls putting his lead in the low- to mid-double digits.

Robert Sarvis on the debate: ‘A complete farce’

You can forgive Robert Sarvis for being a bit bitter. Sarvis is on the ballot for governor as the Libertarian Party nominee, he’s polling 10 percent or above in most polls, and yet he was strong-armed out of a slot in the final gubernatorial debate of the 2013 election cycle because, well, because he’s not a Democrat or Republican.

Kind of an odd way to do this, but … it’s also kind of odd that Robert Sarvis isn’t being included in the upcoming Oct. 24 WDBJ gubernatorial debate.

Robert Sarvis has put more than 8,500 miles on his van this summer running for governor. It might be an uphill battle for Sarvis, running as a Libertarian against well-heeled major-party opponents in Ken Cuccinelli and Terry McAuliffe, but for Sarvis, 36, a native of Northern Virginia with degrees from Harvard, Cambridge, NYU and George Mason, it’s one worth fighting.

Robert Sarvis: Reaction to NoVA Governor’s Forum

I attended a candidates’ forum sponsored by four chambers of commerce in the Northern Virginia area. Despite multiple major newspapers calling for my inclusion in debates, I was not invited to participate, and Virginia voters missed an opportunity to have a truly useful forum where real solutions were discussed.
