Nightly lane and ramp closures at the Interstate 64 interchange at exit 91 (Route 285/Tinkling Spring Road) in Augusta County are scheduled for the week of Oct. 19-23. These are overnight closures in the Fishersville area for milling and paving. All work is weather permitting.
Motorists can expect I-64 eastbound or westbound right-lane closures between mile markers 90 and 92, Sunday through Thursday from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning. Ramp closures at exit 91 will take place according to the following schedule:
Sunday, October 18, from 4 p.m. until 7 a.m. Monday morning:
The I-64 eastbound on-ramp from Route 285 will be closed. Drivers can access I-64 eastbound by continuing south on Route 285, turning east on Route 631 (Ladd Road) and north on Route 340 (Stuarts Draft Highway) back to the interstate.
Monday, October 19, from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. Tuesday morning:
The I-64 westbound off-ramp to Route 285 will be closed. Drivers can access Route 285 by continuing west to I-81 northbound, taking exit 222 and following Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) east back to Route 285.
Tuesday, October 20, from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. Wednesday morning:
- The I-64 eastbound off-ramp to Route 285 will be closed. Drivers can access Route 285 by continuing east on I-64 to exit 94, following Route 340 (Stuarts Draft Highway) north to I-64 westbound, and taking exit 91 to Route 285.
- The I-64 westbound on-ramp from Route 285 will be closed. Drivers can access westbound I-64 by following Route 285 north, Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) west, and I-81 southbound to its junction with I-64.
Wednesday, October 21, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Thursday morning:
- The I-64 eastbound on-ramp from Route 285 will be closed. Drivers can access I-64 eastbound by continuing south on Route 285, turning east on Route 631 (Ladd Road) and north on Route 340 (Stuarts Draft Highway) back to the interstate.
- The I-64 westbound on-ramp from Route 285 will be closed. Drivers can access westbound I-64 by following Route 285 north, Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) west, and I-81 southbound to its junction with I-64.
Thursday, October 22, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Friday morning:
- The I-64 eastbound on-ramp from Route 285 will be closed. Drivers can access I-64 eastbound by continuing south on Route 285, turning east on Route 631 (Ladd Road) and north on Route 340 (Stuarts Draft Highway) back to the interstate.
- The I-64 westbound off-ramp to Route 285 will be closed. Drivers can access Route 285 by continuing west to I-81 northbound, taking exit 222 and following Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) east back to Route 285.
These lane and ramp closures are part of the reconstruction of exit 91 at Route 285 near Fishersville. When contractors finish the project, the road will have four lanes between Route 636/640 and Route 935. A new bridge over I-64 will accommodate the additional through lanes and dual left-turn lanes at both on-ramps. Additional turn lanes at the Route 636/640 intersection will handle traffic from the nearby hospital complex. Route 285 will have a shared-use path for pedestrians and bicyclists.
The Commonwealth Transportation Board awarded Shirley Contracting of Lorton, Va., a $21 million design-build contract in September 2012. The company is performing the work in three phases, starting with construction of the new bridge over I-64 and widening the roadway to the west side of Route 285.
