WWE News: Did you see the Dolph Ziggler pipe bomb?
So we have CM Punk “quitting” WWE in a move that is looking more and more every day like a really nice developing storyline. It’s apparently going so well that creative is planting the seeds with Dolph Ziggler for a similar backstage drama.
That read is based on an excellent promo that Ziggler cut following Friday Night SmackDown.
Here’s the important part of the interview:
“Every single night, every night, every night, I deliver, I deliver. And what do I get for it? I get pulled aside. Hey, don’t be so good. Hey, you’re doing this right, you’re doing this wrong. You know what? I’ve seen Monday Night RAW, I’ve seen Friday Night SmackDown. I know what’s right and what’s wrong, and if everyone is in my head telling me what’s wrong, I know that I am right! Everything I do is to become better, the best ever.
“And I’m not going to stop until I reach that point, and I don’t know if I can continue doing this. I’ve been told I’m a loser, I’ve been told I suck. I’ve been told I’m not tall enough, I’ve been told I’m too loud, I’ve been told I run my mouth backstage. You know why I run my mouth? Because if you can get in the ring with me one person backstage – one person, in the office, in the mailroom, superstar, you name it, one person outdoes me in this business in any aspect, in the back, in the ring, in my house, I don’t care. I will not be outshined.”
Nice job by creative, and nice job by Ziggler in the delivery. It plays well off the frustration that the Ziggler character has been expressing in recent months about the stops and starts to his push that have to be related at least somewhat to his ongoing concussion issues. The frustrations expressed by the character are a good cover for the concussion issues, and give a depth to Ziggler that makes a lot more sense to the WWE Universe now in the context of Punk’s sudden “departure.”
