WDDI launching crowdfunding effort to place kiosk downtown
“We think this is an exciting way to involve a wider cross-section of the local community in the kiosk project,” said WDDI board member Tom Carlsson, who has been working with the city economic development office and Staunton Creative Community Fund on the effort to install an information kiosk that will publicize all the activities happening downtown.
“Crowdfunding has become a viable new means for local groups to raise funds for public service projects. We hope the kiosk effort will succeed and prove replicable for future projects,” said Christina Cain, the executive director of the Staunton Creative Community Fund.
The location for the kiosk will be at the entrance to the Pedestrian Mall, also known as Bruce Alley. The kiosk will be similar to the one found at the Serenity Garden in Waynesboro’s Ridgeview Park.
“The kiosk will be the focal point of the downtown corridor, serving to bring information to our local community and beyond,” said Jenny Carter, the assistant director of economic development and tourism for the City of Waynesboro. “For travelers, the kiosk will afford the chance to catch up on all the happenings we’re working so hard to promote, from the arts to music and dining venues. Cultural festivals and weekend family events are frequent here, and this is a great option to broadcast our outstanding activities for everyone’s benefit – and enjoyment.”
The kiosk will be four-sided with glassed display windows on each side. WDDI will develop a downtown Business Directory to showcase the variety of shops and service businesses found in the Main Street district.
Content on other sides of the kiosk will include: downtown event posters and festival guides, postings on live music, visual and performing arts, small-format menus for downtown eateries, special sales events and other business news.
