uva lacrosseUVA announced its 2015 women’s lacrosse schedule Monday (Nov. 3) which features eight regular-season home games and includes contests against 10 opponents that played in the 2014 NCAA Tournament. Additionally, Virginia will be hosting the 2015 ACC Women’s Lacrosse Championships, April 23-26 at Klöckner Stadium.

“Our schedule is an exciting one again this year,” said Virginia head coach Julie Myers. “We have also added some new opponents in Louisville, the newest member of the ACC, and Navy, who we’ve only scrimmaged against in years past, as well as getting Harvard back onto the slate.”

The Cavaliers, who advanced to the NCAA national semifinals last season, start the 2015 campaign with five-straight away games, opening the campaign on Saturday, Feb. 14 with a neutral-site game in Atlanta against Northwestern, a fellow 2014 NCAA semifinalist.

“We will play Northwestern at Kennesaw State’s outstanding facility,” Myers said. “They roll out the red carpet for us. It is fun to go there where the weather is more-predictably warm in February. To open with a tough opponent like Northwestern, it is really going to make us be sharp in our preseason and our preparation. Everything we do is going to matter.”

Virginia will open its the home slate with a Tuesday, March 3 contest against Harvard. The Cavaliers will also host Loyola (March 11), Princeton (March 14) and Duke (March 21) during the month of March. UVa will not play outside Charlottesville in the month of April with four-straight home contests against Navy (April 1), Notre Dame (April 4), Louisville (April 12) and Virginia Tech (April 17) to close the regular season.

Klöckner Stadium will serve as the host site for the 2015 ACC Women’s Lacrosse Championships from April 23-26. Ticket information for the tournament will be released at a later date.

“Last year, seven of the eight ACC teams were in the NCAA Tournament,” Myers said. Six of the last eight teams standing in the tournament were from our conference with three of them going on to the Final Four. To bring in that caliber of competition with those athletes and those teams into Charlottesville will be a very special opportunity for everyone to experience.”

Virginia returns nines starters from the 2014 team that advanced to the NCAA Semifinals, including All-Americans Morgan Stephens (Olney, Md.), Courtney Swan (Vero Beach, Fla.) and Liza Blue (Butler, Md.).
