Shop green at Cranberry’s

You can shop green at Cranberry’s in Staunton – it’s official.
The Virginia Tourism Corp. has designated Cranberry’s Grocery & Eatery as a Virginia Green designation. “We had to apply to get this label,” says Linda Taylor, the manager of the eatery, “starting with a description of our recycling program – which in our case includes customers recycling egg cartons and plastic bags through us as well as our regular glass, newspaper, cardboard, aluminum and plastic recycling.”

“Then we let them know we make use of local foods; use green cleaners and recycled paper napkins, paper towels, and toilet tissue; make use of natural light and energy-efficient compact florescent lightbulbs wherever possible; keep live plants in the store to improve air quality and added screen doors to our building for fresh air flow,” Taylor said.

Waste reduction, controlled energy and water usage, and reuse of equipment and materials were also part of the application process.

“We’ve already had tourists in the store telling us they came because we’re Virginia Green,” said Taylor, “so I’m glad we slapped the Virginia Green logo on our website as soon as we could!”
