Pair of Braves honored by VBL

A pair of Staunton Braves were among the players honored by the Valley League as its players and pitchers of the week for Week Six of the 2008 season.

Pitcher Josh Squatrito (Towson) was named one of the pitchers of the week after recording three saves in three appearances and striking out seven of the 10 batters he faced along the way. Squatrito is 1-2 with seven saves in ’08 with a 0.92 ERA and 49 strikeouts in 19 2/3 innings pitched.

Braves outfielder Blake McDade (Middle Tennessee State) was honored as one of the players of the week after hitting two homers, driving in nine runs and hitting .471 last week. For the season, McDade is hitting .274 with a .361 on-base percentage, .468 slugging percentage, four home runs and a team-leading 29 RBI.

Also honored:

– Woodstock pitcher Brandon Beachy (Indiana Wesleyan), who struck out six in three scoreless innings while compiling three saves last week.

– Harrisonburg pitcher Chris Chapman (Bethune-Cookman), who gave up two runs and five hits in a complete-game victory over New Market last week.

– Winchester first baseman Joe Agreste (West Virginia), who hit .529 with two home runs and five RBI last week.

– Fauquier shortstop Anders Oster (North Georgia), who hit .500 with a homer and five RBI last week.
