No smoking at Scott Stadium

A new University of Virginia policy will take effect for the 2009 football season, prohibiting smoking in Scott Stadium. Smoking is prohibited in all UVa facilities, including in all athletics facilities.

There is a designated smoking area outside the southwest gate at the stadium, which is required to be 25 feet from the gate. Fans are reminded they may not exit and re-enter the stadium without a separate game ticket unless they are utilizing the designated smoking area.

The policy for bags and backpacks allows those items in the stadium after inspection. Fans with bags should proceed to the entry point farthest to the right at each gate to have their bags checked by stadium personnel.

These policies will be in effect on Saturday (Sept. 5) when the Virginia football team opens its 2009 schedule at home against William and Mary.

In order to expedite entrance into the stadium, it is recommended fans not bring bags to games and to arrive early at the stadium’s gates. Gates open two hours before kickoff of each home football game.
