Justin Bieber, Justin Bieber, Justin Bieber. Biebs, what are we going to do with you?
Whether or not the fallen teen singing idol ends up being deported is the least of his concerns right now. His career is at a crossroads, and his well-being could be next.
First, to the deportation “issue.” You’ve probably heard the reports that a petition on the white house website to deport Justin Bieber has met the 100,000-signature threshold for consideration by President Obama. It’s hard to imagine that consideration being more than, Um, OK, considered it, not doing it, but considered it, but the symbolism is hard to overlook.
The bigger issue is his career. Bieber no doubt knows that he’s a talented singer, but what he will learn soon is that he’s not that much better than anybody else out there to be able to continue to sell music to the adorable little girls and their thirty- and fortysomething mommies while he’s going around acting like a major league jackass.
Jackass is about as nice as you can put it for Bieber right now. Egging neighbors’ houses, drag racing, now the latest news, charges in Toronto involving a fracas with his entourage and a limo driver from last year.
Bigger even than his career is his well-being. Memo to Bieber: See Spears, Britney, see Lohan, Lindsay. Hell, see Bonaducci, Danny. This is where you’re headed. You may be past the point of being able to turn back, but if you’re not there yet, you’ve only got a little ways to go.
As to why this all matters … funny thing is, it doesn’t. That’s the other sad thing about Bieber and other celebrities. The music business will find the next Justin Bieber – may have already found him, in fact, and they’re just waiting to unleash this new kid on the world.
That’s the sad reality of show business. The sadder reality is that so many people end up like Justin Bieber. Chewed up, digested, and, well, you know the rest.
The saddest thing about it is when they do that to themselves.
