Community Health Fair set for Saturday in Staunton

Chris Graham

On Saturday, Dec. 10, from 2-6 p.m. a Community Health Fair will get underway at the Booker T. Washington Community Center, 1114 W. Johnson St., Staunton to provide an opportunity for neighbors to come and enjoy free holiday music, health screenings, public information booths, and toys for the children.

The event is made possible by the combined efforts of members from Augusta Health, the community organization known as The Seed, Office on Youth, Spokes, Parks and Recreations for the City of Staunton, and the Staunton-Augusta-Waynesboro Habitat for Humanity.

A free spaghetti supper – and music by Joe Pettus – will be a highlight of the event.  Toys, bikes, and door prizes will be given out to those attending.   Information booths for free taxes, avoiding insurance fraud, free dental care and other services provided by Valley Community Service board will be set up.   Toys from the Marine’s Toys for Tots will be given out by uniformed Marines, and bikes from the Spokes’ program will be gifted along with other toys from gracious donors.  Door prizes from City of Staunton Office on Youth and community donors will be given.  Family photo mementos and frame crafts will be provided by Barbi Moon-Theado, Habitat’s Brush With Kindness program manager.

Reservations are not required. If you need more information or want to donate a door prize or toy contact Willie Jones at 540.416.8592.  You can drop off your toy or gift to the attention of Rhonda Howdyshell, SAW Habitat for Humanity ReStore on Richmond Road in Staunton Monday – Friday (9 to 5 p.m.) or on Saturday (9 to 1 p.m.)  Toys will be wrapped by Habitat volunteers on Thursday, Dec. 8 beginning at 9 a.m.
