Update: Thursday, July 26, 10:32 a.m. The right lane of northbound Interstate 81 has reopened in Rockingham County, following a tractor trailer crash earlier this morning at mile marker 253 near Harrisonburg. Incident responders continue working to clear the scene, but there is no estimate for reopening the left lane.

The I-81 northbound detour has been lifted, but traffic is currently backed up about 10 miles. Motorists can expect related congestion on Route 11.

Report: Thursday, July 26, 8:15 a.m. Both northbound lanes of Interstate 81 are closed in Rockingham County due to an overturned tractor trailer at mile marker 253. The incident was reported about 7 a.m. Thursday, and northbound I-81 is expected to remain closed for at least two hours. The northbound on-ramp at exit 251 (Harrisonburg) is also closed.

Drivers heading north on I-81 are being diverted off the interstate at exit 251. They will follow Route 11 north and rejoin I-81 at exit 257 (Mauzy/Broadway/Timberville).
