Eric Stout took a no-hitter into the eighth inning, and Waynesboro put the game away with a five-run seventh en route to a 9-0 win over Harrisonburg in Game 1 of the Valley League semifinals Sunday night.

Stout (6-1) struck out one and walked three in his eight-inning effort. Harrisonburg didn’t get its first hit until pinch-hitter Mark Lumpa singled through the hole between first and second with no one out in the eighth.

Kyle Allen pitched a scoreless ninth to close out the game on the mound.

Ryan Breen and Brandon Murray delivered the key hits. Breen’s two-run single ignited a three-run fourth inning that broke a scoreless tie. Murray’s 13th homer of the season, a two-run shot to right in the seventh, capped a five-run Generals rally that put the game out of reach.

Game 2 of the best-of-three series is Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Harrisonburg.
