Route 29 traffic alerts: Aug. 3-7

route 29 solutionsThe following work is scheduled, weather permitting, on the Route 29 corridor in Albemarle County and the City of Charlottesville during the upcoming week. Speed limits may be reduced and traffic movements may be restricted within highway work zones.

(NEW) or (UPDATE) indicate revisions since last week’s report.

 

(UPDATE) Route 29/250 Bypass interchange – Contractor is performing excavation work near the ramp and grading in the median.

  • Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., southbound Route 29 outside lanes and ramp to westbound Route 250 Bypass closed for storm drain installation.
  • Monday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., alternating lanes closed on northbound Route 29 from Morton Drive to Hydraulic Road for line painting.
  • Tuesday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., the southbound Route 29 outside lane, ramp to Route 250 Bypass west, exit from eastbound Route 250 Bypass to Route 29 north and the westbound Route 250 Bypass outside lane from Hydraulic Road to just west of the interchange will be closed for line painting.
  • Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. intermittent left-turn lane and crossover closures will occur on Route 29 between Earhart Street and Hydraulic Road.

 

(UPDATE) Rio Road grade-separated intersection – Utility relocation work will occur in the vicinity of the Rio Road intersection.

  • Wednesday through Friday, 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., Route 29 northbound right lane closure and periodic closures of Albemarle Square main exit.
  • Thursday and Friday, 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., Route 29 southbound right lane closed from Woodbrook Drive to West Rio Road.
  • Monday and Tuesday, 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., Route 29 southbound two right lanes closed and Route 29 northbound two left lanes closed from Fashion Square to Woodbrook Drive.
  • Monday through Friday, 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., Route 29 northbound right lane closed from 29th Place to Rio Road.
  • Monday through Friday, 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., Route 29 southbound and northbound, alternating lane closures in the vicinity of Myers Drive and Berkmar Drive.

 

(UPDATE) Route 631 (Rio Road) – Sunday through Friday from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., line striping and finishing work will be done on East Rio Road from Route 29 to approximately 0.1 mile south of Hillsdale Drive. Motorists should be alert for lane closures and changes in the traffic pattern. Traffic through the work zone will be controlled and brief delays are likely.

(UPDATE) Route 29 widening – No work planned.
