Jonathan Schoop hit a two-out, two-strike, walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth, lifting the Baltimore Orioles to a 3-2 come-from-behind win over the Washington Nationals Friday night.
The Nats led 2-1 in the eighth when Matt Wieters stroked an RBI double to right-center off reliever Matt Thornton to tie the game at 2-2.
Tanner Roark (4-4, 4.43 ERA) came in to pitch the ninth for Washington, and struck out Jimmy Paredes and J.J. Hardy to get two quick outs, in advance of Schoop’s homer, his sixth of the season.
Adam Jones hit a solo homer in the fourth off Nationals starter Gio Gonzalez, who got a no-decision after giving up a run on six hits in six innings of work, striking out five and walking three.
Orioles starter Chris Tillman was also effective in six innings of work, allowing two runs on eight hits, striking out six and walking one.
The Nats (46-39) have now lost three in a row, and have seen their lead in the National League East dwindle to two games.
The O’s (44-42) remain three games behind the New York Yankees in the American League East.
