potomac nationalsPotomac (44-47-Overall, 19-25-Road, 11-11-Second Half) was held hitless through six frames and ended with just one hit in a 6-0 loss to the Frederick Keys (44-50-Overall, 24-22-Home, 12-12-Second Half) at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium on Sunday night.

RHP Reynaldo Lopez (5-6, 4.82) made the start for Potomac and cruised through the first two frames, facing the minimum before the Keys exploded in the bottom of the third for five runs on three hits and three walks to cement the 6-0 victory.

Lopez lasted four innings, allowing six runs (all earned) on seven hits, three walks and he did not record a strikeout in the loss.

Frederick, in the third, began the frame with back-to-back walks from Lopez. After 3B Anthony Caronia fouled out on a sacrifice bunt attempt, CF Jay Gonzalez laced an RBI double for a 1-0 Keys lead. LF Josh Hart followed with a two-run double to push the lead to 3-0 Keys. After a walk to DH Chance Sisco, two batters later C Austin Wynns hammered a two-run single into left-centerfield for a 5-0 advantage for Frederick.

The Keys added a run against Lopez in fourth with one out when 1B Wynston Sawyer singled. Gonzalez, with two outs, then reached on an infield single and it was Hart who knocked in Sawyer with a single to drive home his third run of the game and give Frederick a 6-0 lead.

RHP Justin Amlung entered in relief in the fifth and was good for Potomac out of the bullpen. Amlung hurled four shutout innings, allowing just one hit and striking out one to keep Potomac in the ballgame. Amlung, in his last two outings has not given up a run over seven innings and he’s given up just the one hit.

LHP Ariel Miranda made the start for Frederick and he had no-hit stuff for his six innings of work. Miranda didn’t allow hit, he walked two and he struck out six while earning the win in the 6-0 ballgame. Miranda also induced five foul outs of Potomac hitters in the win.

Potomac’s best chance to score was in the top of the sixth when they had two on and one out. CF Narciso Mesa reached on an error charged to Caronia at third and SS Stephen Perez walked. DH John Wooten struck out and then Mesa, on an errant pitch from Miranda, was nailed trying to advance to third to end the inning.

The combined no-hitter was broken up in the top of the seventh when RHP Matt Taylor came into the game and with two outs, 1B Grant DeBruin singled through the right side for the only hit of the ballgame for Potomac. Taylor went two innings and allowed one hit, a walk and he struck out one before giving way to LHP Cody Wheeler, who nailed down the 6-0 win for Frederick with a perfect ninth inning.

Potomac has now lost five in a row, matching their season long in that department and look to even the series tomorrownight.

First pitch from Nymeo Field is set for 7:00 pm and Potomac will send LHP Matt Purke (0-0, 0.00) to the mound against LHP Luis Gonzalez (5-7, 7.32) for the Keys.
