VMI basketball tops Wright State, 94-74

The VMI Keydets put all five starters in double figures, led by QJ Peterson’s 21 points, and shot 17 of 31 from three-point range to propel their squad to a 94-74 win over the Wright State Raiders Saturday afternoon at Cameron Hall. Despite the final score, the game was tightly contested early. Over the first 11:43, there were five ties and 10 lead changes.

JMU women’s basketball loses on buzzer-beater to Wright State

James Madison women’s basketball fell 79-77 in a heartbreaker to Wright State as the Raiders’ KC Elkins scored a 3-point shot at the buzzer for the win. JMU finished in fourth place at the Gulf Coast Showcase, held at Germain Arena in Estero, Fla.

Stan Okoye had his second straight double-double, posting 25 points and 13 rebounds, and the VMI Keydets used a 17-4 second half run to break open the game and defeat the Winthrop Eagles, 72-54, in Big South basketball action Saturday afternoon at Cameron Hall in Lexington, Va. With the win, VMI (8-7) goes to 3-0 in Big South play for the first time since the 2008-09 season.
