Will it be the worst thing for the country if today’s elections give Republicans one or both houses of Congress? Yes and no.

You might be surprised at my reasoning on the yes. It’s not a partisan point of view that has me thinking that way. It’s more – can we just make our damned minds already?

This wishy-washiness goes back at least to 1992, if not 1968. We give the Republicans the keys for a few years, then we say, no, now it’s time for the Democrats. Of late, it hasn’t even been a few years, more like two. Think back to 2004, when Karl Rove was predicting a permanent Republican majority, which lasted all of two years, as Democrats took Congress in 2006, then built on those gains in 2008 and elected Barack Obama to the White House.
