Slow roll closures on I-64, I-81 in Rockbridge County on July 24

Chris Graham

road work transportationMotorists may experience brief delays early Sunday morning, July 24, during slow-roll closures for utility work crossing eastbound Interstate 64 at mile marker 56 in Rockbridge County.

Slow-roll closures are scheduled to begin at approximately 6:45 a.m. and conclude by 8:15 a.m. These times are subject to change and are weather dependent.

Because the location of the work is very near the junction of I-64 and I-81, traffic will be controlled from three directions:

  • The eastbound on-ramp from Route 11 onto I-64 at exit 55 will be controlled by flagging operations.
  • Virginia State Police will perform slow roll traffic control for eastbound I-64 at mile marker 53.
  • Virginia State Police will perform slow roll traffic control for northbound I-81 at mile marker 189 and southbound I-81 at mile marker 193.

The VDOT Staunton District serves Frederick, Shenandoah, Clarke, Warren, Page, Rockingham, Augusta, Highland, Rockbridge, Alleghany and Bath counties.

Traffic alerts and traveler information can be obtained by dialing 511. Traffic alerts and traveler information also are available at 511Virginia.org. Citizens can dial 1-800-FOR- ROAD (1-800-367-7623) from anywhere in the state to report road hazards, ask transportation questions, or get information related to Virginia’s roads.
