Imagination Library coming to Staunton

A new Dolly Parton Imagination Library is coming to the City of Staunton. The Imagination Library program, which gives free books to children birth to five years of age, is sponsored through the United Way of Greater Augusta.

Started in Tennessee by Dolly Parton, the program has spread through the country and has been available to residents in Augusta County for the last year. Dolly Parton Imagination Library targets children in poverty but is designed to give all children a rich library of children’s literature.

This year, funds were secured through grants UPS, Dominion Virginia Power, Comcast, Augusta Health Foundation and the United Way of Greater Augusta’s annual campaign.

Sign-ups for the program are scheduled to begin Saturday, May 1, at Kids Matter Day, an annual event held 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Gypsy Hill Park Gym in Staunton.

Kids Matter Day is a collaborative event where youth serving agencies and organizations come together to offer crafts, information on services and up close look at other services such as fire and safety. Dolly Parton Imagination Library be taking registrations at the event as well as making registration forms available through the Staunton Public Library and the United Way of Greater Augusta office located in Fishersville.
