Marketing manager

Traditionally, marketing managers have overseen marketing campaigns involving the use of TV, magazines and newspapers. Today, the world of a marketing manager is very different. While traditional marketing resources can still be used, the Internet is now the biggest shop window and billboard in the world.

Social media in particular, has become a widely used marketing tool in recent years. More than 2.5 billion people use Facebook alone, across the globe. When you add that figure to other social media users, such as the 100 million people that use Instagram, you can see why marketing managers need to be able to understand social media, and use it to their advantage.

Public relations officer

The role of a public relations officer is to help manage the reputation of a brand. They need to ensure that the business they represent presents a good image to the public. In order to do this, they need to be able to monitor what is being said about the business, across social media, and create plans to address any negative comments or discussions that may cause damage to the reputation of the brand, if they are not addressed.

No matter what your role is, or what position you are hoping to take up, it’s important to remember that using social media in a professional sense requires more restraint, planning and legal awareness than using it at a recreational level.
