New TV ad slams Trump parental leave plan

tv-clipartA new TV ad from UltraViolet Action, a national women’s advocacy organization, slams the Donald Trump parental leave plan for failing to include low-income families, single fathers, adoptive parents, and same-sex couples, and those that need to take time off work for family emergencies.

The ad will air on Monday, September 26th on MSNBC in Washington, D.C., ahead of the first 2016 presidential debate between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, hosted by NBC’s Lester Holt.

“Trump’s child care plan is being covered by the media like it’s some stunning pro-woman pivot from Trump. But the slightest examination of the substance shows how awful the plan is.  Families making over $400,000 a year get a huge tax benefit, while low-income families get basically nothing.  Worse yet, Trump’s plan includes a parental leave policy that perpetuates the sexist myth that raising children is ‘women’s work’ by excluding dads, most gay couples, and adoptive parents.” said Nita Chaudhary, Co-founder of UltraViolet Action. “This is exactly the kind of plan that you’d expect from a person who gives no paid leave to many of his own employees and has called pregnancy an ‘inconvenience for a business.’ Trump’s proposal makes it clear that his vision of America is radically out-of-touch with what America’s working families look like, and what they really need. And frankly, it isn’t fooling anyone.”
