The Keydets (0-0) look forward to a fresh start from a year ago as a young squad was held winless (0-16-2) despite several close calls throughout the season. VMI opened the 2017 season at Longwood and nearly came out on top but ended up battling to a 2-2 double overtime draw.

VMI is led by sophomore Willson Tuck, who returns having scored two goals from a year ago. Fellow sophomore Fabian Munoz-Velasquez also returns to the team having put in one goal in 2017. Cooper Duplantis, Richard Quispe and Sohrab Shaikh return as upperclassmen having recorded one assist each from last season.

The Keydets will be without the services of graduated senior David Wright, who led the Keydets with two goals last season and a team-high 21 shot attempts.

About the Lancers (0-0, 0-0 Big South)

Friday’s matchup also marks the season opener for the Lancers, who played exhibition matches last week against Barton and Wright State to prepare for the 2018 campaign.

Longwood is led by Sammy Dupuy and Connor Rea who both logged two goals from a year ago. A host of Lancers scored one goal throughout the season including Dan Campos, Sherif Maalouf, Max Poelker, Eoin O’Donovan, Marten Pajunurm, Josh Hanratty and Joshewa Frederick.
