Lynchburg scored seven runs over the final three frames to win 7-3 over the Myrtle Beach Pelicans on Friday night at TicketReturn.com Field at Pelicans Ballpark. The victory was the fourth straight for the Hillcats against the Pelicans.
NO HITS NECESSARY
Myrtle Beach plated a run in the bottom of the third inning as Carlos Penalver walked to lead off the frame and came around to score on a wild pitch by Luis Lugo to give the Pelicans a 1-0 lead without recording a hit. Myrtle Beach picked up their first hit of the contest when Cael Brockmeyer hit his eighth home run of the year in the fourth inning to make it 2-0 Pelicans.
SEVENTH INNING BREAKTHROUGH
Lynchburg’s offense finally started rolling in the top of the seventh. Joe Sever led off the frame with a single, Mike Papi reached on a walk, and Yhoxian Medina loaded the bases on a fielding error by Brockmeyer. Ivan Castillo singled to left to scoreSever and bring the Hillcats within one, 2-1. LeVon Washington smacked a shot up the middle that drove in Papi and Medinato give the Hillcats a 3-2 lead over the Pelicans.

GIMME THREE STEPS…AT HOME PLATE
Clint Frazier and Joe Sever hit back-to-back singles to start off the top of the eighth and Papi walked to load the bases once again for the Hillcats. Eric Haase walked with the bases loaded to give the Hillcats a 4-2 lead. Medina grounded out to second base on a fielder’s choice to score Sever to make it 5-2 in favor of the Hillcats. Castillo rounded out the scoring when he recorded his second RBI base hit that drove home Papi to extend the lead to four, 6-2.
LUGO STRONG OUTING
Luis Lugo earned a no-decision, but had a solid outing for the Hillcats. The southpaw allowed two runs on just one hit while walking two and striking out three. Robbie Aviles (7-1) earned the win for the Hillcats by pitching one inning of relief. He gave up just one hit and struck out a batter to pick up his seventh win of the year.
Myrtle Beach scored one final run in the bottom of the eighth as Trey Martin was hit by a pitch to start the inning and advanced to third on a single by Daniel Lockhart. Martin scored on a RBI groundout by Pin-Chieh Chen that brought the Pelicans within four, 7-3, but the score would hold for the remainder of the contest.
KEEPING UP WITHT THE CATS
LeVon Washington went 3-for-4 at the plate for the Hillcats in the win…In the month of August, Washington has appeared in 11 games and has hit from the leadoff spot in each contest…He is hitting 20-for-50 (.400) and has recorded a multi-hit game in seven of those 11 contests…Joe Sever went 3-for-4 at the plate on Friday…In four games since returning from Double-A Akron, Sever is hitting 7-for-17 (.418) with a home run, a double, three RBIs, and five runs scored.
