Lynchburg took an early lead in the rubber game against Frederick, but the Keys scored six unanswered runs to win 6-1.
The Hillcats were able to score in the first inning. Andrelton Simmons singled, and Phil Gosselin followed by ripping a pitch down the third baseline. It got past a diving Dale Mollenhauer and rolled all the way to the wall. Simmons came around to score and put the Hillcats up 1-0.
The lead held up until the third inning, when Jacob Juilius led off with a solo home run to right field to tie the game at one.
The Keys scored again in the fifth. Bobby Stevens hit a two-run double, and Tyler Townsend singled him home to give the Keys a 4-1 lead.
Hillcats starter Aaron Shafer (2-1) left the game after seven innings. The bullpen had some control problems in the eighth. Jeremy Haynes walked three batters in a row, and then Andrew Wilson came into the game and walked a fourth in a row to force in a run. A groundout scored another run, and the Keys led 6-1. That score would hold up for the last two innings, and the Keys won the game, and the series.
Keys starter Bobby Bundy (8-5) pitched seven innings, giving up five hits and just the one run in the first inning. He struck out six Hillcats and walked two.
The Hillcats start a four-game series with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans tomorrow at City Stadium. Lefty Chris Masters (4-3) will take the mound for Lynchburg and face fellow southpaw Miguel De Los Santos (0-0). First pitch is at 6:05 pm and the gates open at 5.
