Tribe completes sweep of JMU

Shortstop Ryan Williams broke a 2-2 tie with a leadoff home run as part of a three-run sixth inning as William and Mary defeated James Madison 5-2 to complete a three-game Colonial Athletic Association baseball sweep on Sunday afternoon at Eagle Field at Veterans Memorial Park.

W&M improved to 15-7 overall and 4-2 in the CAA.  The Tribe entered the series having lost six in a row to the Dukes.  JMU lost its ninth game in a row to fall to 5-14-1 overall and 0-6 in the CAA. Read more

JMU women win WNIT opener

James Madison outscored Davidson 41-29 in the second half en route to a 65-49 win over the Wildcats in National Women’s Invitation Tournament first-round basketball action Thursday night at the JMU Convocation Center.

JMU advances to a second-round game against Wake Forest, a 72-61 winner over Charlotte Thursday.  The Dukes host Wake at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 18.

JMU improved to 25-7 while Davidson completed its season with a 22-10 record. Read more

JMU completes weekend sweep of Lafayette

Junior catcher Bradley Shaban (Midlothian, Va./Cosby) lifted a two-run home run to right to give James Madison the walk-off 7-5 victory and complete a weekend series sweep of Lafayette on Sunday afternoon at Eagle Field at Veterans Memorial Park.

JMU improved to 5-5-1 for the season with the sweep and 5-3 on its current 10-game home stretch.  The win was the 450th career triumph at JMU for head coach Spanky McFarland.  Lafayette fell to 2-5 on the year. Read more

JMU sweeps twinbill from Lafayette

Redshirt-senior Sean Tierney (Midlothian, Va./Clover Hill) threw a three-hit, complete-game shutout in the opener and freshman shortstop Chad Carroll (Oakton, Va./Oakton) delivered a ninth-inning, game-winning single in game two as James Madison swept Lafayette with 9-0 and 10-9 wins Saturday afternoon at Eagle Field at Veterans Memorial Park.

JMU snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 4-5-1 on the season and 4-3 on the current 10-game home swing.  Lafayette dropped to 2-4. Read more

JMU falls to UNC-W in CAA Tourney

Cedric Williams scored a career-high 22 points, and Keith Rendlemen added 14 as the duo powered ninth-seeded UNCW past eighth-seeded James Madison, 70-59, in the opening game of the 2012 Virginia 529 CAA Men’s Basketball Championship.

UNCW (10-20) notched its first victory in the conference championship since 2008 and advances to Saturday’s quarterfinals against top-seeded Drexel, scheduled for a noon start at the Richmond Coliseum. Read more

JMU women win on Senior Day

James Madison sent its senior class out with a 63-44 win over Old Dominion in the Dukes’ final home game of the season in Colonial Athletic Association women’s basketball Sunday afternoon at the JMU Convocation Center.

JMU improved to 22-6 overall and 13-4 in CAA play.  ODU dropped to 9-20 overall and 6-11 in the CAA as the Monarchs dropped their fourth straight game. Read more

Bucknell takes series with win at JMU

David Duffett and Travis Clark each drove in four runs as Bucknell posted a pair of five-run innings to defeat James Madison 13-6 and claim three out of four games in the non-conference weekend series on Sunday afternoon at Eagle Field at Veterans Memorial Park.

BU improved to 4-2 overall while JMU fell to 2-5-1.  The Dukes won the series opener 12-1 on Friday before then dropping the next three 8-6, 22-6 and 13-6. Read more
