Paging Aroldis Chapman, paging Aroldis Chapman. That’s the sentiment among some Nats fans after the latest bullpen implosion in a 10-6 loss to San Diego on Sunday.
The Padres (43-56) tied the game with a pair of solo homers in the eighth off setup man Shawn Kelley (2 blown saves, 3.11 ERA, 1.01 WHIP), then broke the game open in the ninth off closer Jonathan Papelbon (2-3, 3.62 ERA, 1.30 WHIP), touching up Papelbon for four runs on four hits and a walk in two-thirds of an inning.
Starter Lucas Giolito (0-0, 4.91 ERA, 1.91 WHIP) only last three and a third innings, giving up four runs on four hits, striking out three and walking two.
The middle of the order had a big day for Washington (58-41). Daniel Murphy (.355/.392/.620, 19 HR, 73 RBI) was 3-for-3 with two RBI, and Wilson Ramos (.337/.389/.533, 14 HR, 53 RBI) was 3-for-4 with a homer and three RBI.
Bryce Harper (.244/.385/.46, 20 HR, 55 RBI), in the midst of a harrowing 9-for-52 stretch, did not start, and popped up in a pinch-hit at bat in the ninth.
