Virginia State Police investigate serious crash in Rockingham County

Virginia State Police Trooper C.D. White is investigating a single-vehicle crash in Rockingham County. The crash occurred Wednesday at 6:10 a.m. on Route 259 at 1 mile west of Route 820.

A 2008 Mack Tractor Trailer was traveling west on Rt. 259 when it crossed the center-line, ran off the roadway left, struck a parked vehicle, a tree, and overturned before it struck a house. The vehicle and the house were unoccupied.

The driver of the Mack, Ralph D. Herman, 37, of Roseland, Va., was seriously injured in the crash and was flown to UVA Medical Center. Herman was wearing a seat-belt.

No charges have been placed at this time.

The crash remains under investigation.

Virginia State Police was assisted by the Rockingham County Fire and Rescue Department and Bergton Fire and Rescue Department.
