JMU women’s basketball dominates Norfolk State, 94-50

Senior guard Kirby Burkholder (Bridgewater, Va./Turner Ashby) scored 22 points and snagged five rebounds to lead the James Madison women’s basketball team to a 94-50 win over Norfolk State in the championship game of the JMU Invitational presented by Fairfield Inn at the JMU Convocation Center Monday afternoon.

UVa. women’s basketball tops Princeton, 69-57

The Virginia women’s basketball team (7-6) won the team title at the Cavalier Classic Tournament Presented by Holiday Inn University Area, defeating Princeton (8-5) 69-57 Sunday afternoon (Dec. 29) at John Paul Jones Arena. It was the 10th-straight year that the Cavaliers have won the team title in their annual tournament.

Teven Jones: Bigger than the box score

The line score isn’t what you’d call impressive: nine minutes, one point, one assist, one turnover. But Teven Jones might have been UVa.’s MVP in its 59-56 loss to #14 VCU Tuesday night. Jones entered the game with seven minutes left in the first half, and the Cavs trailing 21-14.


VMI basketball tops Air Force, 71-63, to capture All-Military Classic

Behind a combined 55 points from their three leading scorers – D.J. Covington, QJ Peterson and Rodney Glasgow – the VMI Keydets claimed the All-Military Classic championship with a 71-63 win over the Air Force Falcons Saturday evening at Cameron Hall in Lexington, Va.

#1 UVa. women’s soccer rolls past Maryland in ACC Tournament quarters

The top-ranked Virginia women’s soccer team posted its first 20-win season in school history as it downed Maryland 6-1 in an ACC Tournament quarterfinal Sunday in front of 2,349 fans at Klöckner Stadium. The Cavaliers (20-0) advance to meet Virginia Tech in Friday’s ACC semifinals in Cary, N.C., while the Terrapins (10-10) were eliminated from their final ACC Tournament.

JMU’s A.J. Davis Goes to Sioux Falls in NBA D-League Draft

Former JMU guard A.J. Davis (Columbus, Ohio/Harmony Community School), who was instrumental in James Madison’s 2013 men’s basketball championship season, was selected in the third round (39thoverall) by the Sioux Falls Skyforce in Friday night’s NBA D-League Draft.
