Scout in ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ to speak at Bridgewater College

bridgewater collegeMary Badham, an actress best known for her portrayal of Jean Louise “Scout” Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird, will speak at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, in Cole Hall at Bridgewater College.

Badham was selected for the role of “Scout” at the age of 10 and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

She lectures internationally on the film and its message of justice for all.

Badham also acted in This Property is Condemned and Let’s Kill Uncle, and had appearances on two television shows, Dr. Kildare and The Twilight Zone. In 2005, she appeared in the movie Our Very Own with Keith Carradine, Allison Janney and Jason Ritter.

She has participated in the National Endowment for the Arts’ Big Read program that offers grants to support organizations in developing community-wide programs which encourage reading.

Badham has appeared at the White House during the administrations of Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama.

This program is free and open to the public.

Bridgewater College is a private, four-year liberal arts college located in the Central Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Founded in 1880, it was the state’s first private, coeducational college. Today, Bridgewater College is home to more than 1,800 undergraduate students.
