Obama maintains slight edge in polls

The presidential race had seemed to be moving in the direction of a big Barack Obama groundswell, but things are tightening back up once again.

The Rasmussen Reports daily presidential tracking poll has Obama leading John McCain by a 49 percent-to-44 percent margin, while a Gallup Poll released today has Obama up by a closer 46 percent-to-44 percent margin.

The Rasmussen numbers had some interesting tidbits. Both Obama and McCain are viewed favorably by 56 percent of the voters surveyed and unfavorably by 42 percent of those surveyed. Opinions are more strongly held about Obama than about McCain. According to the Rasmussen data, 33 percent have a very favorable opinion of Obama, and 28 percent have a very unfavorable opinion, while for McCain the numbers are 17 percent very favorable and 18 percent very unfavorable.
