Moran picks up Dem leader endorsements

It’s going to be decided by a primary, so that could limit their influence. But still, the endorsements of seven of the 11 district chairs in Virginia Democratic Party circles can’t be a bad thing if you’re Brian Moran.

“It’s time for Democrats to unite behind the candidate who can win in November and govern come January 2010,” First District Democratic Committee chair Suzette Matthews said today in joining with a group of state Democratic leaders in announcing their support for Moran, a Northern Virginia state delegate who is competing with Bath County State Sen. Creigh Deeds and likely candidate former Democratic National Committee chair Terry McAuliffe for the 2009 Democratic Party gubernatorial nomination.

In addition to the district chairs, Moran is also claiming the support of a majority of the Steering Committee of the Virginia Democratic Party, the chair of the party’s Women’s Caucus, the chair of the Democratic Black Caucus and former state party chairman Kerry Donley.

“I am humbled by the strong support of some of Virginia’s most prominent Democratic leaders,” Moran said. “I’ve had the pleasure of working with these individuals over the course of my 20 years of public service – winning elections with them, building bipartisan coalitions with them, and helping build a stronger Virginia for the next generation with them,” Moran said.
