Fifth District: Perriello raises questions about Goode fund-raiser

What interest would a lobbyist group have in hosting a pay-to-play fundraiser for Fifth District Congressman Virgil Goode? That question is being asked by the campaign of Democratic Party nominee Tom Perriello.

“This is just another example of how Virgil Goode has been bought and paid for by the special interests in Washington. Voters of the Fifth District should be offended that he would engage in such blatant inside-the-Beltway power-brokering, on the anniversary of 9/11, no less,” said Jessica Barba, communications director for the Perriello campaign.

The invitation to the Sept. 11 event, hosted by lobbyists Tom Lankford and Jan Schoonmaker and VSAPAC, notes Goode’s seat on the House Appropriations Committee. Giving levels noted on the invite are $500 for individuals, $1,000 for those representing PACs and $2,500 for PACs that would want to be sponsors.

The event is being hosted on Constitution Avenue in the shadow of the United States Capitol.

“We demand that Congressman Goode cancel this event. If he refuses, it will send a strong signal to voters that he is more interested in representing special interests over Southside,” Barba said.
