James Madison softball joined spotswood high school for its annual CommUNITY Carnival last Friday afternoon. It was the Dukes second year to be involved in the event, which supports Spotswood’s anti-bullying program called Olweus.
Softball players were set up at stations throughout the carnival. Activities featured a ring toss, inflatable slides, miniature golf, a mechanical bull, balloon darts and other carnival-inspired games.
“Honestly I couldn’t do it without them,” said parent volunteer Melanie Tomasi about the JMU athletes. “They run what’s going on here, and we love JMU.”
Started in 2012, Spotswood High School’s Olweus program is made up of 85 upperclassmen and is completely student run.
