Governor Terry McAuliffe announced the winners of the annual Governor’s Technology Awards at a special ceremony at the Commonwealth of Virginia Innovative Technology Symposium (COVITS) in Richmond. Secretary of Technology Karen Jackson and Chief Information Officer of the Commonwealth Nelson Moe presented 17 awards in nine categories on the Governor’s behalf at a reception on Wednesdayevening.
“I am very impressed with the breadth and depth of these winning projects, and I congratulate the staff members who developed and implemented them,” said Governor McAuliffe. “These awards confirm that our agencies and localities are using technology to solve business problems in innovative new ways. From broadband and workforce development to data analytics for business intelligence and electronic health records, these projects align with our common efforts and goals. Virginia and our citizens are the direct beneficiaries of the projects we honor today.”
For 19 years, the Governor’s Technology Awards program has recognized public sector information technology (IT) projects that have improved government service delivery and efficiency. Winners are determined by a panel of government IT experts.
Multiple awards were presented in several categories because of the extremely close scores between projects. Executive summaries of each winner’s entries are posted on the COVITS website, covits.virginia.gov/winners.html, to provide inspiration and best practice examples to peers and partners.
