crooked roadThe Crooked Road On Tour comes to the Wayne Theatre/Ross Performing Arts Center on Saturday, April 23, for one show, at 7:30 p.m.

The Crooked Road On Tour is a concert program of seasoned performers from The Crooked Road steeped in heritage music traditions. The Whitetop Mountain Band and Jeff Brown & Still Lonesome will be featured in this performance.

“The Wayne Theatre is really excited to bring a program that is so well known to our city,” said Tracy Straight, executive director. “We look forward to welcoming the mountain music, preservation and history to our stage.”

The Crooked Road sent 12 displays that are museum-quality exhibits that will be set up throughout the community promoting the music of The Crooked Road region. They will be on display for the ribbon cutting at the theatre on Tuesday, April 19, at 11:30 a.m.

“The displays are professional and contain a lot of historical facts,” said Straight. “It’s a really creative way to educate the community about the rich history of the families and communities of Southwest Virginia since the colonial times,” said Straight, “and get everyone excited about the program coming to the Wayne Theatre.”

The Whitetop Mountain Band is one of the busiest groups in the Appalachians, performing concerts and for dances in America and abroad. They have deep roots in mountain music and their members have done much to preserve the Whitetop region’s style of old time fiddling and banjo picking. They are a tour de force of playing, singing, and dance, and they are gifted entertainers as well.

Guitarist and singer Jeff Brown is a seasoned and masterful musician from the coalfields area of Southwest Virginia. Like Ralph Stanley, Jeff’s sound has been forged by the haunting and stark strains of a music derived from hard work, Sunday hymns, and a ruggedly beautiful place. His band has the experience to appreciate and carry forward the old traditions, and the youth to keep it fresh and exciting.
