The Valley Blue Dog: Sarah Palin is a Closet Socialist

Column by Steven Sisson

Yes, Republican VP nominee Sarah Palin is a Closet Socialist. The governor’s state of Alaska receives more federal dollars, in subsidies and earmarks and government assistance, than any state in the USA.

The Blue Dog says Palin is a tried and true socialist.

Like I wrote in the Blue Dog column two weeks ago, in the United States the state of Alaska ranks No. 1 in spending and No. 1 in taxes. Alaska per-capita has the largest, err … let me repeat, the largest, pork funding of all 50 states – requesting a whopping $198 million, which tallies out to $295 per person, according to the Taxpayers for Common Sense.

That’s borderline European socialism.

Does the American public know Gov. Palin “spread the wealth” by taxing oil-company profits and then cutting a $1,200 check for every Alaskan?

That’s called spreading the wealth Baked Alaska Style.

Palin’s redistribution of state wealth something Karl Marx would be proud of.

As far as supporting the bailout of Wall Street and lending institutions, don’t forget Republican nominee John McCain voted for the $700 billion bailout, which is nothing more than a federal-government takeover of the U.S. financial market.

Institutionalized, government-sponsored Financial Market Welfare, I say.

More to the point, the Bush and proposed McCain tax cuts for wealthy individuals and big business are nothing more than Corporate Welfare, which is Washington status quo. With McCain, the rich get richer, the poor get poorer.

That’s American socialism for the rich with a Republican capitalist twist.

Don’t forget Bush- and McCain-sponsored loopholes in the tax code for the rich.

Light-bulb time: McCain is your running mate, Sarah Palin.

Exactly how many Republicans does it take to screw in this light bulb?

WWJD?

Sarah Palin has been playing the part of the attack dog with McCain’s presidential campaign while invoking God’s name across the nation at GOP political events.

The Blue Dog says the demonizing devil dog-speaking Palin is nothing more than an Evangelical-practicing hypocrite.

“Do as I say, not as I do” Palin and the right-wing faction of the Republican Party have been attempting to link Democrat Obama with 1960s Weathermen anarchists, WTC terrorism, Muslim extremists, and of late Palin has been calling Obama a Socialist.

Fact is Obama is a Democrat. Obama is a Christian. Obama is an American.

However, politicking divisiveness with innuendoes, guilt-by-association and hatemongering has become a daily routine with the McCain-Palin campaign along with GOP negative advertisements and robo phone calling, i.e. push polling.

Yet Palin is a staunch practicing Evangelical Christian who is supported by the religious right wing of the Republican Party.

Is this another case of Palin’s “Do as I say, not as I do?”

More and more Americans are saying Palin’s political rhetoric is beyond reproach.

Demonizing Palin has invoked the words “Real Americans” to describe Republicans who attend her campaign events. She later apologized for the callous remarks on CNN along with other Republicans who claimed Democrats and independents were anti-American and unpatriotic.

The Blue Dog would love to question Sarah Palin, “What Would Jesus Do?”

Would Jesus condemn or judge others based on their associations?

No. Nada. Not a chance. Christianity is not about talking trash.

Hmm … I believe Jesus associated with tax collectors, whores and sinners.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the Blue Dog thought the Christian tenants and beliefs were based on God’s love, grace and mercy.

Hmm … Evangelical Christian extremists found on the Internet have declared that Barack Obama is the Anti-Christ.

Say what? How backwards and ignorant can people be! God only knows.

In the name of Almighty God, these Evangelical Christian extremists and ministers have offered prayers at McCain-Palin campaign events and have preached against a fellow Christian, Barack Obama, from the pulpit of churches throughout American.

Holy Moses! Unbelievable! But sadly true of the Evangelical zealot sect.

Without a doubt, fundamentalism and religious extremism, whether it’s the Christian faith or Muslim or whatever, is the scourge of the modern world and has no place in government.

It;s no wonder the forefathers of these United States of America endorsed the separation of church and state in the Constitution.

Republican Sarah Palin has said, “God will do the right thing on Election Day.”

The Blue Dog agrees. ‘Nuff said.

Palin per diems and ethics

Don’t forget the Alaskan Troopergate! The AP reported the “Alaskan bipartisan legislative investigation ruled Sarah Palin abused her power and violated the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act.”

If the Alaska governor’s recent ethics charges were enough, America is learning more and more about Eskimo Barbie and her inability to deal with finances, expense reports, budgets and shopping sprees.

This past week, the Associated Press and CNN reported Gov. Palin had expensed her children to travel with her and later amended the expense reports to specify her family was on official business.

This so-called government reformer, Sarah Palin, amended those expense reports only three-weeks prior to her VP nomination.

Say what? That’s unethical political behavior. Err … lest I repeat, “Do as I say, not as I do.”

Palin’s per diem abuse reminds the Blue Dog of his least favorite GOP state senator in the Virginia General Assembly who embellishes his annual expenses on the backs of Shenandoah Valley taxpayers.

The AP reported, “The charges included costs for hotel and commercial flights for three daughters to join Palin to watch their father in a snowmobile race, and a trip to New York, where the governor attended a five-hour conference and stayed with 17-year-old Bristol for five days and four nights in a luxury hotel.”

A hubby’s snowmobile race in Maine is official business? Talk about a Snow Job with the American media and general public!

The Blue Dog says Sarah Palin’s actions are more of the same “Do as I say, not as I do” Republican political philosophy concerning government affairs and fiscal conservatism.

Apparently Palin, who claims to be an average American Hockey Mom, loves to shop at Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus, while Wall Street tumbles and 401K retirement plans wither away and home foreclosures mount each day.

Joe the Stockbroker, err … Not Joe the Plumber shops at Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus.

This so-called plain-speaking Hockey Mom according to the grapevine likes high fashion at the expense of taxpayers. The Internet-based new source Politico reported the RNC expensed $150,000 on clothes and close to $5,000 in make-up for Palin. That’s a lot of face pancake.

Ooh-la-la! Let’s play dress-up Barbie Doll to superficially impress the voters!

The GOP reply explained the clothing would be donated to charity. Moreover, Shopaholic Sarah Palin will probably deduct these losses on her IRS taxes.

Republican shallowness and hypocrisy are overwhelming at times.

Republican Shock and Ouch!

Sarah Palin is a running joke to Democrats, but she is a red-faced embarrassment to Republicans from sea to shining sea, which includes noteworthy Republicans who have either questioned Palin’s nomination or have endorsed Democrat Barack Obama…

Susan Eisenhower and Julie Nixon Eisenhower … Reagan speech writing Peggy Noonan … conservative columnists George Will, Kathleen Parker David Brooks, Doug Kmiec, Chris Buckley and David Frum … Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel, former senator Lincoln Chafee, former congressman Jim Leach and California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger … former Bush White House press secretary Scott McClellan, former Treasury secretary Paul O’Neil and Reagan appointee Kenneth Adelman.

Shock and Awe, err … I meant to say Shock and Ouch!

During the same weekend Sarah Palin appeared on the late-night comedy show, “Saturday Night Live,” while former Secretary of State and decorated retired Army Gen. Colin Powell, who is a Republican stalwart, endorsed Barack Obama on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

What TV show carries more political weight — a late-night comedy show or award-winning Sunday-morning news program? Ooh, duh.

While interviewing on “Meet the Press,” Colin Powell commented about Palin, “She’s a very distinguished woman, and she’s to be admired. But at the same time, now that we have had a chance to watch her for some seven weeks, I don’t believe she’s ready to be president of the United States, which is the job of the vice president. And so that raised some question in my mind as to the judgment that Sen. McCain made.”

Sarah Palin is a no-brainer judgment call with undecided voters, who are voting for Democrats Obama and Biden due to Sarah Palin’s inexperience.

Blue Dogs to the rescue!

House GOP officials might lose a net 34 seats in Congress, while in the Sixth District, opposition candidate Democratic Blue Dog Sam Rasoul has been slowly and quietly nipping away at his opponent’s conservative credentials.

Yes, Congressman Bob Goodlatte, I’m talking about you.

With most stock-based retirement accounts at 40 percent lesser value no thanks to Republican trickle-down theories and supply-side economics, I’m suggesting you might be a tad nervous this time around about term limits and re-election. You might want to think about an Alaskan cruise with the Palin family.

The Blue Dog wonders how many times so-called fiscal conservative Bob Goodlatte proliferated and appeased, and no doubt assisted with the significant and historically high federal deficit with his buddy President George W. Bush.

Give a Blue Dog a bone and let me count the ways.
