VMI baseball: 16 Keydets get summer ball assignments

vmi baseballSixteen VMI Keydets will play summer baseball throughout the U.S., according to information released by the program Sunday morning.

Some of the closest Keydets to play to Lexington will play in the Valley League and the Carolina-Virginia Collegiate League, and that list will include a pair of key cogs from the 2018 squad. Starting second baseman Callen Nuccio will play for the Carolina Vipers in the Carolina-Virginia League, while fellow infielder Noah Cook will suit up for the Roanoke Rails in that same league.

Meanwhile, in the Valley League, three Keydets will play for the Covington Lumberjacks. Derek Tremblay, Nathan Loyd and Will Knight will play in Covington, with Tremblay – who finished tops among 2019 returning Keydet players in appearances – suiting up in his hometown. Cody Warner will join that threesome in the Valley League, playing for the Waynesboro Generals, while Sam Ewald will suit up for the Strasburg Express.

Also close to VMI, Michael Geary and Jon Clines will be teammates in Herndon, Va., playing for the Herndon Braves of the Cal Ripken Collegiate League, while Jordan Ebersole will be on the Loudon Riverdogs roster. In addition, Michael Spence will suit up in the Piedmont Collegiate League in Richmond.

Matt Pita, who was named First Team All-ECAC this past Thursday, will play for the Savannah Bananas of the Coastal Plains League, while Ryan Smoot will go across the country and play in La Miranda, Calif. for the Southern California Catch.

Ryan Hatten and Michael Diodato will be teammates in New York’s Hamptons League, playing for the Southampton Breakers, while Matt Keane will suit up for the Hoptown Hoppers of the Ohio Valley League.
