The Cinderella Project of the Shenandoah Valley served 394 clients in the past year. On Sunday, the non-profit recognized their volunteers at the Staunton Cracker Barrell.
The Cinderella Project is shining in its new location in Valley Mall at 1925 E. Market Street. Dresses, jewelry, shoes, mall visitors interested in what the nonprofit has to offer. But, there’s something missing.
In December 2020, along with other tenants, The Cinderella Project vacated the Staunton Mall, and put dresses in storage in Waynesboro. On Wednesday, Sept. 1, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., supporters and volunteers are invited to an open house of the new location at Valley Mall in Harrisonburg.
The story is like a fairy tale. A nonprofit found a caring home. Until it was told to leave in December. Now The Cinderella Project of the Shenandoah Valley is looking for the glass slipper that fits.
The Cinderella Project of the Shenandoah Valley is now a recognized non-profit by the IRS received by them on February 28th. The project was notified they are now a recognized 501(c) and will be tax deductible for donors.
The Cinderella Prom Project of the Shenandoah Valley started in 2003 from an idea that germinated from a news article about how expensive proms had become for students and their families. Many students could no longer afford the attire for attending prom for financial reasons.
Area high school seniors and juniors who need a little “fairy godmother” help to attend their high school prom in proper attire, will get it thanks to the year round efforts of a group of volunteers, generous donors, caring stylists, and the management at the Staunton Mall.
Rhonda Howdyshell of Middlebrook will represent Virginia at the Senior America Pageant planned in Hershey, Pa., the end of September.
Grants totaling $400,000 are on their way to 42 nonprofit organizations on behalf of the City of Staunton and Augusta County.
