More than 25 percent of the city’s population may have previously faced challenges navigating the website due to disabilities, learning and visual impairments or language barriers.

“Accessibility is a top priority for us in Staunton,” said Leslie Beauregard, Staunton City Manager. “We are dedicated to ensuring all community members can access information and services in ways that meet their individual needs.”

The new Recite Me assistive technology allows users to customize their digital experience to access content and services barrier-free.

The toolbar offers features including:

  • Screen reading functionality
  • Multiple reading aids
  • Customizable styling options
  • Live translation in more 100 languages with 65 text-to-speech options

This new tool aligns with the goals of Staunton’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Commission, which was established as a permanent commission in 2024.
