The first Buc-ee’s in Virginia opened its doors at 6 a.m. this morning in Rockingham County. The travel center is located off Interstate 81 at exit 240, just south of Harrisonburg.

Buc-ee’s founder and CEO Arch “Beaver” Aplin III was joined by federal, state and local officials for a ribbon-cutting event at 10 a.m.

Aplin said he looks “forward to more Buc-ee’s in Virginia.”

A similar sized location is planned to open in 2027 in New Kent County, at exit 211 off Interstate 64, east of Richmond.

Buc-ee’s has identified a potential third location in Stafford County off Interstate 95.

With the addition of Rockingham County, Buc-ee’s operates 53 stores across Texas and the South. Since beginning its multi-state expansion in 2019, travel centers have been opened in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina, Tennessee, Missouri, Colorado and Mississippi.

Located at the intersection of Friedens Church Road, the new 74,000 square-foot facility represents Buc-ee’s northeast expansion, opening the brand to new customers previously unfamiliar with it.

The travel center brings 200+ jobs to the county – with full benefits, a 6 percent matching 401k and three weeks of paid vacation.

“This is a moment for celebration, not just for Buc-ee’s, and not just our local economy but for the spirit of Virginia and the spirit of growth that’s rooted in the traditions and values of this region,” said Joel Hensley, Board of Supervisors chair.

Buc-ee’s also welcomed first responders and their families to a preview event on June 27.
