A Buc-ee’s Travel Center off Interstate 81 in Rockingham County should be open for business in just over four months with an earlier than first announced grand opening date.

The Buc-ee’s opening was bumped up four days to June 30, Assistant Rockingham County Administrator Casey Armstrong told AFP this week.

The company was originally planning for a July 4th opening, as reported by AFP in December.

The travel center will be located on more than 21 acres off exit 240 in Mount Crawford, just south of Harrisonburg.

“The countdown to the grand opening of the brand new Buc-ee’s is officially on! We can’t wait to see everyone for the grand opening,” read a post on the Rockingham County Facebook page.

The ground breaking took place on Jan. 30, 2024. Buc-ee’s expansion in Virginia was announced in March 2023.

The Buc-ee’s Travel Center is expected to bring more than 200 full-time jobs to the county and will be 74,000 square feet with 120 fueling stations and 24 EV charging stations.

This will be the first Buc-ee’s location to open in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

A similar sized location is planned to open in 2027 in New Kent County, at exit 211 off Interstate 64, east of Richmond.

Buc-ee’s has identified a potential third location in Stafford County off Interstate 95. The company has plans to open four travel centers in Virginia. The fourth location has not been announced.
