WTA’s Gateway to present strategies of the American Civil War

gatewayDr. Jim Armstead, noted professor of military strategy, will present “Strategic Analyses of Civil War” at WTA’s Gateway on March 21 at 7 p.m.

Dr. Armstead’s presentation will look at the whole of the war, the strategic plans on both sides and address why the North won. The presentation has been given around the world to very favorable reviews and is famous for its comprehensive view of the conflict.

Dr. Armstead is a retired professor of Strategy and International law from the US Naval War College. He taught military strategy and national security policy for nearly 30 years.  He has been a member of the faculties at Stanford University, Pepperdine University, University of California, Naval Postgraduate School, Lewis University, the Virginia Military Institute and Washington and Lee University. He has also lectured at the British Joint Services Staff College and taught as a visiting professor at the Universite d’Pau in France and the University of London. He has lectured at senior staff colleges in Poland, Austria, Germany, Slovenia, and Malaw as well as the US Army War College, the United States Military Academy and the South African Military Academy. He served as a research associate at the prestigious RAND Corp and been a special assistant to the Secretary of the Army.

Dr Armstead received his undergraduate education at the University of Illinois in history and anthropology and his J.D. from DePaul University.  He holds a Ph.D in public policy analyses from Pacific Western University. He holds an advanced certificate in International Law from the Instituto Superiori Internationale Criminali Superiore in Siracusa Italy.

The presentation will be at 329 West Main at 7 pm.  The lecture is a joint effort of the Wayne Theatre Alliance and the Waynesboro Heritage Museum. There is no admission fee but donations of at least $5 are suggested.
