Katrina Lassiter, who previously served as an Assistant Principal at Waynesboro High School, has been named director of Valley Academy Regional Alternative School.
Valley Academy in Fishersville serves middle and high school students from Augusta County and Waynesboro schools who benefit from a non-traditional learning environment. The school’s team works closely with students to provide the support and opportunities necessary for success.
“Ms. Lassiter has made our entire community proud through her work as an Assistant Principal at Waynesboro High School. I am excited to see her step into this new role at Valley Academy and am confident she will continue to build on the strong foundation established by Mr. Van Devander and the dedicated staff. She has a deep understanding of our community and a special ability to connect with students who face academic, behavioral, social and emotional challenges. I look forward to seeing the difference she and the Valley Academy team will make together,” said Superintendent Dr. Jeff Cassell.
At Waynesboro School Board’s regular meeting Tuesday night, Cassell said that CJ Van Devander accepted a position with Augusta County as director of transportation.
Lassiter will begin transitioning into her new role in the next week after serving as an Assistant Principal at Waynesboro High for more than three years where she built strong relationships with students, families and staff. She has also held leadership positions at Kate Collins Middle School, Charlottesville City Schools and Norfolk City Schools.
Before moving into administration, Lassiter was a special education teacher and a Special Education Instructional Coach in Norfolk.
A graduate of Virginia Wesleyan University, she earned her master’s in Educational Leadership, Administration and Supervision from Regent University.
